What is Reflexology?
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a non-invasive, light touch complementary therapy that is carried out on the feet or hands. It can bring on a deep sense of relaxation and balance. When our mind and body, physical and emotional needs are in balance, it can aid and improve health and wellbeing.
Reflexology is based on the principal that specific reflex points on the feet and hands correspond to different parts of the body. The feet and hands are a mini map and a mirror of the body. Pressure is applied to specific areas that correspond with internal organs, glands and all systems of the body. By applying pressure and light touch to these reflex points, the aim is to encourage the body to restore a state of balance, this in turn supporting the body’s own healing process.
Reflexology is carried out holistically, with you, the client being at the centre of the decision making and care planning at all times. Reflexology should never be used as an alternative to care by your primary healthcare provider and seeking medical advice. Reflexology does not treat conditions, it treats the individual.
I am unable to diagnose and cannot cure any illness, however reflexology aids and supports wellbeing and can help the body find its own balance. Using reflexology alongside the medical model can enhance your wellbeing. As a complementary therapist I will advise and signpost you on to medical colleagues, other clinicians, or other therapists.
Specific Reflexology techniques and protocols will be used on an individual basis following initial consultation (see Treatments).

Can reflexology help me?
Reflexology does not claim to cure, but can enhance, encourage and support a natural balance within your body.
In this increasingly stressful life we live, taking time out for yourself is very important. More and more people are now taking responsibility for their own holistic care. Reflexology could support this journey.
Reflexology is a very individual therapy and people react differently to it. Some people may feel a deep sense of relaxation. Some might feel a lessening in some physical or emotional symptoms and others may feel nothing.
People have reported that after a treatment they feel their tension lessening and feel a deep sense of relaxation. You might experience a more restful sleep and notice that your overall mood and wellbeing improves. This in turn can increase energy levels. You might also notice that other aspects of your health and wellbeing improve. Again this is unique and every individual experience is different
Reflexology can benefit children, teenagers, adolescents, adults of all ages and in end of life care. It can benefit women and men’s health equally.
Reflexology can help with:
- Release of tension
- Improved sleep
- Improved mood and increased wellbeing
Reflexology supports your holistic care.
If you are unsure if reflexology is for you, contact me and we can discuss further.
